Help 4-7s learn how David points to Jesus with this beautifully illustrated Old Testament storybook from Alison Mitchell, the award-winning author of Jesus and the Lions’ Den and The One O’Clock Miracle.
Moments in David’s story when David is a little bit like Jesus are signposted with symbols that children need to spot, helping them to understand the relationship between the Old and New Testaments.
This fun, interactive resource will give children skills to read the Bible as they connect the stories and learn that the whole Bible is about Jesus. Great for parents or grandparents to give children aged 4-7. Can also be used as a homeschool resource ...or for children’s ministry in church.
Christ is in every page of the Bible. You might have heard that through sermons, conferences or books as an adult. Great idea! All of the Bible is pointing to God’s only Son on who we want our kids to go to specially in salvation. We don’t want them to miss that point like what Matt Chandler’s sermon rebuking our modern evangelical interpretation of David and Goliath episode. It’s not about you or your problem. It’s all about Jesus. But how can we tell this to our small wonders without turning it into a “Where’s Waldo?” book? This new book ...from Alison Mitchell fits the bill! Well it has a itsy bitsy searching game but that’s not the main point and it’s not included without any reason. I know there had been books that has this kind of theme, but if you and your kids dive to this book or by reading the title alone, you know that it’s a pretty straight forward and direct that will hit the target.
I like how the author re-tells the David vs. Goliath story, then added some essential parts of the life of David without rushing things and ending up as a montage goop. You’ll enjoy the story before you get to the part were the author gives the places where the special crown is spotted. It’s a pretty cool springboard to the last part of the book which David and Jesus is compared, and points further to the cross and the gospel. Pretty neat! Thumbs up for the execution and how the author clearly explains contents of the final pages of the book. As for the art, Noah Warnes illustrations perfectly fit this book. There are some wow moments especially when Mitchell shows the similarities of both David and Jesus. Repeating scenes featuring David replacing it with Jesus are amazingly superb.
