“Gold”

(Review written for 'Tales of the Unexpected (Starter Pack)')

This short course is awesome. Unmerited grace and forgiveness seem to be the major stumbling blocks to people really getting to grips with the heart of the gospel. 'Tales of the Unexpected' presents these so clearly though, and the testimonies at the end of each session helpfully drive home what the personal implications of the gospel are. The questions in each session also really help any participant examine their own standing with God.

I've only run the course in a 1-1 setting, but it works well with both the complete newcomer to the Christian faith or the person who has been sitting in the pew for years. My suggestion is to only use the booklets for the leader preparation and then write down your own questions - this will keep it more relational and make it feel less like a 'course'. But you need to follow the logic / structure of each session, otherwise the videos won't work - and they are the highlight.

Highly, highly recommended.

“Excellent group study for short bites of scripture”

(Review written for 'Tales of the Unexpected (Starter Pack)')

We used this this with a group of 20 which included 2 teenagers. The questions allowed everyone - regardless of their Biblical literacy - to work on the same playing field. The short videos were slick, to the point and opened the way for further discussion. The course helped everyone to grow in their understanding of the riches of God's grace.

Highly recommended.

I've only used this with 2 men so far but found it excellent - clear, well presented and attractive

“Just the job”

I'm currently using this course 1-1 with someone so it's still early days. However - A) It's 4 weeks which is much less of a big deal for people to commit to these days, so that's good. B) It's less a course more an encounter with Jesus' teaching which means you really get to the heart of the matter, first things first - so that's good too. C) If you're in a situation where your church hasn't got a massive pool of contacts and an Alpha or CE course seems way off, but you're keen to do something - this is well worth a look. D) It's really inexpensive, I like that as well!

“Fills a massive gap in evangelism strategy in 21st Century”

Having been involved and run Christianity Explored for the last 5 years I began thinking through the reasons why there is poor attendance and a tremendous drop off with numbers usually halving by the end of the 6th week. My conclusion was that 10 weeks and a weekend (day away) is quite a lot for people to invest in first up. Seekers want to learn about Jesus but 2 and a half months of committing to meetings and being involved in discussion with homework seems a bit overkill and intimidating for many.

This course however seems to fill that gap brilliantly, 4 weeks, great presentation, keeps the main thing the main thing and means people get a real flavor of the real Jesus very quickly. It sparks interest, stimulates discussion and is also intriguing enough to keep people coming back. On this foundation there is then plenty of scope to get people onto a more detailed course like CE where they are keen to discover more and more ready to commit to a longer stint. Thank you so much for this, I am so excited to see how God will use it in our church up here in Edinburgh.
