About this book

A right understanding of honour is vital to healthy churches. It’s a word that’s mentioned hundreds of times throughout the Bible. But what does honour really look like for us in everyday church life? Who should we honour and how?

Adam Ramsey brings a fresh understanding of true honour in our churches. He paints a vision of an honouring church that captivates your mind and heart—a church that shines brightly in the community because of the way its members value and respect each other and their leaders and, above all else, bring honour to God.

Written by Adam Ramsey, Director of Acts29 Asia Pacific.

Endorsements

Surely one of the most neglected commands in the Western church is the command to outdo one another in showing honour (Romans 12:10). In a culture obsessed with self-love, self-promotion and self-fulfilment, the call to value others above ourselves can sound unreasonably hard and possibly harmful. Adam Ramsey helps us understand why honour among members and leaders is essential for the health of our churches, and how it can be a beautiful witness in our communities. He offers a compelling vision of a prayerful people committed to humble love, thoughtful encouragement and Christ-exalting service. This is a people I want to be part of! I pray this book will be widely read and that the church of Christ will shine more brightly as a result.

I am thrilled to recommend Adam Ramsey's excellent new book. Having worked alongside Adam for close to a decade, I can attest to his exceptional character and unwavering commitment to living out what he writes in this book. In each chapter, Adam explores the true essence of honor within the church, showing us how we rightly honor God and one another through humility, biblical competitiveness and godly leadership. His insights are not just words on pages but a reflection of the honorable man he is. I wholeheartedly recommend Honor as an instructive, convicting and inspiring read that mirrors the wisdom and integrity of its author.

In this work, my friend Adam Ramsey shows us that a culture of honor is God’s design for God’s people. Our churches need this—not only a biblical theology of honor but a biblical experience of it. Creating a culture of honor is a vital way we can carry out Jesus’ command to love one another, and in doing so, communicate to a watching world how the gospel truly changes lives and relationships, to the honor and praise of God.

5.00 stars Needed so badly at this point in history

(Review written for 'Honor')

To the point. Poignant. We can’t speak to the gravity of need of other points in time, but Adam Ramsey’s thoughts on this topic are badly needed as it regards individual congregations at THIS point in history. Cliche & out of context as it may be: “for such a time as this” as apathy is fully embraced among our flocks & the de-prioritization of church involvement takes root among so many. This is not a “hair on fire” of urgency but a humble finger-pointing to the longer end-game: until our Savior returns we have a continued duty to make the ...

5.00 stars Great Addition to the Series

(Review written for 'Honour')

We love this series as the books make great gifts for church members and excellent reading ideas for home groups, as we think about what our churches should be like. This is an excellent addition to the series, helping us to see how we should be building one another up rather than pulling each other down. We should build up our leaders, value one another, and bring honour to God through it all. It’s an enjoyable, easy read and includes lots of deep theological truth too. There’s also a small group discussion guide at the back which is particularly useful ...

5.00 stars A Reciprocal Relationship

(Review written for 'Honor')

How does showing honor to each other honor God? In Honor, Adam Ramsey writes on loving your church by building one another up.

Ramsey does an excellent job of explaining the importance of honoring each other as a motive of love for Jesus. It is also memorable, as Ramsey shows how honor is applied in our head (doctrine), hands (actions), and heart (affections).
