I love this small group study guide series from The Good Book Company. Christians are regularly told they should spend more time studying God’s Word, but sometimes there’s not a clear plan for how to do this. These study guides provide practical, step-by-step guidance on working through books of the Bible, along with wonderful questions that encourage reflection and application. I hope churches and Christian ministries will take advantage of this wonderful resource.
The aim of the The Good Book Company is to be biblical, relevant and accessible, and nothing embodies that ethos more than their Good Book Guides. Each guide provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.
The Good Book Guides are an immensely precious resource for the church. A careful blend of helpful context and clearly-worded, searching questions which aim to help readers to uncover the meaning of the text and apply it in responsible ways. I think these small group studies are the best available and pray that they will continue to prove helpful to local churches across the world!
An exceptionally strong insight into the nature of David. He wore his heart on his sleeve and so often we can find echoes of our own feelings in his psalms. It is reassuring to know God loved David's honesty, even when he was angry with God. This book helps explore David, and is well worth a read.
Our home group are about two-thirds of the way through this Study Guide and have found it helpful in learning more of King David. We were a little disappointed that nothing of his life and relationship with Saul and his family was included between the triumph over Goliath and the promises made in 2 Samuel 7.
Bought this study guide for a small Bible Studies Group and it works very well. Taking a key event in King David's life and then relating it to Christ with a New Testament reading. We have had very thoughtful and stimulating discussions during our meetings by then adapting it to life today. A very good resource and clearly set out with helpful notes at the back for the course leader.
Have been working through this six-study guide on the life of David over the past few weeks with a friend and would recommend it. The questions and 'explore more' sections are well thought-out, studies can be covered in about an hour, there's a good mix of comprehension and application questions to get you thinking.
Helpful for group bible study. Well balanced between instruction and challenge
We did these notes with a small group of Christians, some of whom are pretty new to bible study, and some old hands. We had some very good discussions, and were encouraged that in spite of David's sin, God still used him, and God's purposes were fulfilled.
This material is proving popular with the members of the Study Group. It is particularly appreciated that it connects the text and the themes with real exeperiences in both individual and corporate life today.
We have been using these studies in our house group. We appreciate the questions being closely related to the text. It is also helpful for those who perhaps are less familiar with the Old Testament.
