Here is an ideal combination: one of today’s stand-out gospel communicators reflecting on the life, wisdom, and sheer guts of Daniel, one of yesterday’s outstanding heroes of the faith. With clarity and grace, courage is laid bare as one of our great needs today. 'Brave by Faith' is certain to challenge and encourage Christians of every age and at every stage in life. A book for our times!”

Here speaks a pastor who knows both his Bible and his people. He not only understands the Scriptures but lovingly applies them like medicine for the soul. These daily devotions will do that. They will help you get to know the Bible better and how it fits together. They will stretch your mind with deep, bracing theology expressed with accessible clarity. They will warm and nourish your heart because they breathe the beauty of Christ. I have been struck by the freshness and variety of the devotions, from every part of the Scriptures, and by the pastor’s heart that beats through them. There is rich nourishment here for the soul, the fruit of many years of mining the Scriptures and caring for people.

Alistair Begg brings the message of Jesus into our world, clarifying its meaning and relevance without blunting any of its challenge. But Begg also sets that challenge in the bigger context of Christ’s message of grace. As a result, the challenge becomes an invitation—an invitation to a happy life.

Brave by Faith brings familiar chapters to life in a fresh way and is a timely shot of gospel-fuelled conviction in our arms. Navigating faithful discipleship through the choppy waters of the early twenty-first century feels harder than ever. But the church has been in exile before. The remarkable lives of Daniel and his three friends—and their even more remarkable God—are testimony to the fact that the throne of the Lord Jesus will 'never, like earth's proud empires, pass away.'

Life in Jesus’ kingdom is life at its very best—liberating, exhilarating, and altogether satisfying. It is also countercultural and counterintuitive. The principles and priorities of the kingdom are wildly different from the values and virtues celebrated in contemporary society, and it’s all too easy for us to conform to the dominant culture rather than embrace our calling to live distinctively. With his typical blend of wisdom, warmth, and wit, Alistair Begg takes us back to Jesus’ teaching and shows what kingdom life looks like—and why it really is the best life.

This book could not be more timely. Alistair Begg beautifully paints the ancient biblical story of Daniel, equipping modern readers with enduring truth and courage to live well in grim times. And he gives us a winsome reminder of how our story will actually end.

I found these daily devotions by Alistair Begg to be a huge help to daily Bible reading—a critical barometer of our spiritual health. Time and again I was made to think freshly about a passage and then given another chapter which made me reflect more deeply on the verses that the commentary had opened up. A very timely gift to aid discipleship in the church.

Endorsement written for Truth For Life - Volume 2

The discipline of daily Bible-reading is one that is always in danger of becoming routine or a chore. That is where a good devotional guide can be helpful in keeping the familiar stories and teachings of Scripture fresh and thought-provoking. Alistair Begg has produced one such volume. Like Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening, this is not a guide to extended passages of Scripture but a series of reflections on particular verses touching particular aspects of the faith. Each one is designed to make the Christian think more clearly, love God more fervently, and act in ways that are more godly. For those looking for a book that will reinvigorate their devotions, this book might well be it. (Commenting on Volume 1)

Here is a book to be read slowly—and more than once. This is not because it is difficult to understand (it isn’t), but because it is so important and good. Alistair Begg casts a brilliant light on the remarkable life into which Jesus calls his people. How does the life of a Christian actually show the reality of their salvation? How does it show their delight in values that are contrary to those of the world? Readers will find real answers. More than that, they will find themselves rejoicing in the privilege of being among those Jesus described as 'blessed.'

With characteristic clarity and warmth, Alistair shows God's people how to make brave choices as a misunderstood minority in challenging times. This book shows how humble, prayerful, calm, obedient trust in our sovereign Lord will shape our choices and our responses as we live in this world as citizens of the eternal kingdom of our Lord Jesus. We can take heart and live bravely because our risen Lord has overcome the world.

If you find yourself despairing over the deep cultural divides of our time, you will find hope and help in reading this book. Alistair Begg explores the call of Jesus to a life that is radically different from what we see in the world and sometimes in the church: a life in which we love those with whom we radically disagree, speak with gentleness and kindness, and focus first on dealing with our own sins rather than the sins of others. This book is full of the grace and wisdom of Jesus, that we desperately need today.

This is a brilliant book. Alistair Begg handles the text beautifully and applies it incisively to the specific challenges we face at this cultural moment. Best of all, reading through Daniel 1 – 7 along with this book refreshed and strengthened my confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

If anything seems to be missing or elusive in the lives of Christians today, it is the presence of courage. One of the virtues of courage is that it holds on to hope. Alistair Begg helps us all by taking us back to the notable Old Testament model for both hope and courage—the prophet Daniel. You will be refreshed and strengthened by a fresh look at the young prophet and his friends as they face life-threatening hostility in a pagan world.

A good daily devotional is a wonderful aid to a daily habit of reading and meditating on Scripture. And this one, as you would expect from Alistair Begg, is pure gold. With the skill of a spiritual surgeon, he carefully dissects both the Scriptures and our hearts. A daily devotional dose of wisdom from one of the finest preachers of our time. How could this possibly be anything but life-giving nourishment for the mind and heart?

Alistair Begg engagingly opens up Daniel 1 – 7 to encourage believers to live an excellent Christian life in the midst of the fiery furnace of national iniquity and injustice. A timely book that is needed today and that can also help us prepare for tomorrow.

Alistair Begg’s may be the most recognizable Christian voice on air in America today. This book is indeed a shock, but though it is blunt, it is also full of hope. Pastor Begg has delivered an elixir: truth and confidence in God. Now is the time for serious people with serious worries to turn to trusted voices that speak bluntly to these times, and that is what Alistair Begg does.

I have always admired Alistair’s God-given courage and conviction in speaking and writing about biblical truth which everyone needs to hear but far too many are afraid to say. In that same spirit, 'Brave by Faith' is a phenomenal book with a timely message. I can't recommend it highly enough.

5.00 stars One of the best

(Review written for 'Truth For Life - Volume 1')

This devotional by Alistair Begg is one of the best devotionals written. It is clear, relevant, biblical in content and easily applied. Pastor Begg brings his personality, intellect and knowledge of the Word into the daily devotions. I believe it will lift you up but also challenge you every day.

4.00 stars a great resource

(Review written for 'Truth For Life - Volume 1')

We bought a copy of Alister Begg Truth for Life. It is very interesting and excellent daily readings resource. Our only problem is the size of print. My wife and I are both in our eighties and find it rather difficult to read without extra lighting. I did check if there was a large print edition but without success.
Having said that it is still a great resource and would certainly recommend it.

5.00 stars Thought provoking

(Review written for 'Truth For Life - Volume 1')

I bought this as I was given Alister beggs second book as a Christmas present. The daily thought with accompanying bible verse is good, there is also a bible reading at the end of the devotional, which relates to your daily reading. I love the read through the bible in a year also and various quotes in the daily reading you can look up. With the book you get an option of an e book version. I downloaded it to my tablet and use it while on holiday or away. Overall a very good book recommend it to anyone.
