This book of devotions is designed to use alongside 'God's Big Promises Bible Storybook' which just happens to be my new favourite kids Bible for 1-5 year olds. I bought one at Christmas for my nearly 2 year old and we absolutely love it - the stories all follow the thread of the big story of God's redemption, focusing on God's big promises, but in really simple language. The pictures are bright, colourful and engaging. It feels similar to the Beginners Bible, but has more of the bigger picture of God's salvation plan, while being less wordy and easier to ...follow for younger children (in my opinion) than the Big Picture Bible. (To be clear, I own both those other Bibles and still use them with my kids). This book of family devotions seems aimed at around 3-5 year olds and it goes through the whole Bible, one story a day. It is pitched perfectly for my 4 year old - we have been using it at bedtime, she really enjoys the starter activity, saying the prayer together before reading the story (this prayer is the same every day) then answering some questions together. These vary from comprehension/were you listening to thought-provoking application. There's a sticker for each page too, which helps if attention is flagging. There is minimal/no prep and it doesn't take long, so we've just added it to reading a nightly bible story and it has definitely helped my 4 year old engage with the bible more. Overall, I highly recommend both the devotions and the kids Bible it works through, if you have kids aged 2-5yrs old.
God’s Big Promises: Beginning with God offers families a beautifully structured journey through 92 Bible devotions that highlight God’s unwavering faithfulness. Each devotional is grounded in Scripture and thoughtfully designed to help readers of all ages grasp the breadth and depth of God’s promises throughout redemptive history. The way the devotionals flow — from the character of God to His work in salvation — helps families see the consistency of God’s love and purpose from Genesis to today.
What stands out most about this book is its balance of depth and accessibility. The devotions are rich enough to engage adults in meaningful reflection, yet clear and inviting enough for children to follow along and understand. Rather than feeling like a collection of disconnected readings, the book weaves together the story of God’s faithfulness in a way that feels cohesive, intentional, and hopeful. Each entry gently points readers back to the gospel, reminding families that God’s promises are trustworthy and anchored in who He is.
The structure makes this devotional ideal for daily family devotions. The passages are just the right length to encourage regular reading without feeling rushed, and the accompanying reflections naturally open the door to conversation. God’s Big Promises doesn’t just recount biblical truths — it invites families into them, helping parents and children see how each promise relates to their lives today.
Overall, this devotional is a strong resource for families seeking to build a rhythm of Scripture reading and faith discussion at home. Its emphasis on God’s character and His faithful promises makes it an encouraging and spiritually grounding book that both children and adults can return to again and again.
We love this family devotional which is perfect for using at mealtimes as a busy family. It’s perfect for pairing with the God’s Big Promises storybook Bible, and helps us as a family dig a bit deeper into the story and how it applies today.
Each devotional goes in a set sequence: Do (a short introduction activity), Starting Question, Pray, Read the Bible, Retell the Story, Ask (Questions about the story and how it applies), Listen (a short Bible quote), ...and Final Prayer.
The whole devotional takes about 15 minutes each day and once you’ve completed the day, you can add a sticker as a treat to finish! We’d definitely recommend it as a way for your family to spend some time in the Bible each day in a fun and encouraging way
