The Sing! Hymnal

The hymns of the Getty team help us express truth that accords with God’s Word and affections that accord with God’s worth.

This Sing! Hymnal, providing us with a collection of hymns, old and new, is a gift to the church. Theologically sound and melodically enlivening, it leaves no doubt that true praise and worship begins with God and his glory, not man and his need.

There are few things more important than the church singing songs filled with the life-changing content of that gospel of Jesus Christ. So, I am excited about this collection of hymns the Gettys have put together. May it be used around the world for generations, filling hearts with timeless gospel truths.

For decades God has used Keith Getty and those around him to introduce rich hymns into the bloodstream of our churches. I pray that this new project will only further strengthen God’s work among us.

When it comes to the hymns I sing, I want the lyrics to reflect Christian orthodoxy, not theological fluff, for God’s heart is delighted when our praise begins with his marvelous attributes, works, and wonders. The Sing! Hymnal does just that. My friends Keith and Kristyn Getty have assembled the best of hymns, whether from previous centuries or the modern era. This hymnal is a timeless collection of theologically rich songs that will set your heart soaring!

The Gettys are a precious benediction from heaven to enrich our praise. They have been used by the Lord to provide theologically rich, singable music for the church in this generation. More than anyone else they have led in the long-awaited revival of hymns which have always been the true music of the church.

Hymns have been an artistic expression of the church since it was born, and I’m so glad to see this new collection carrying the beauty of the gospel into the future.

We are shaped by what we sing. Our theology informs our hearts, minds, and spirits. We are invited into gospel alignment when we sing together the hymns of the faith. This new and artistically curated hymnal gives us a fresh way to come together, singing with one voice a song of praise.

I don’t know anyone in this generation who has promoted the use of theologically driven, gospel rich, congregationally accessible hymns for the church more than Keith and Kristyn Getty. I fully expect believers for generations to come will be thanking God they partnered with Crossway to produce this hymnal.

Whenever revival has taken place, new, scripturally sound hymns have been born that have enthralled the hearts of God’s people. Yet, for the church to worship God appropriately there must be a healthy mixture of the old, proven classics and the best of the new hymns. This is what the Gettys have given us in this hymnal. May God use it to bring glory to himself as his people worship their glorious Redeemer.

Good hymns provide a musical vocabulary to help articulate the Christian’s experience with God. We’re grateful that the Gettys have produced a hymnal that, Lord willing, will encourage the church to sing the ‘old, old story’ for generations to come.

The Sing! Hymnal is a gift to the church. I’m so excited to have such a beautiful and theologically rich resource for this generation and beyond.

When God rescued Israel out of slavery in Egypt, his people became a singing people (Ex. 15). When Christ rescued his church out of slavery to the world, the flesh, and the devil, his people became a singing people (Col. 3:16). After redemption, rejoicing! After salvation, singing! After deliverance, doxology! We sing because we’ve been saved. But what shall we sing? Besides the historic versions of the Psalter, God has gifted his church with hymn writers and musicians to help put a new song in our mouths. The Sing! Hymnal will serve a new generation to sing to the Lord with heart, soul, and mind.

Hymns are tried and true, and there isn’t a better organization to help us remember and sing these classic and modern songs than Getty Music. The Sing! Hymnal provides hymns with profound truth, rooted in deep theology, that we’ll be singing for a lifetime. What a gift to the church!
