I'm using this at the moment with a Chinese/English student and it is really difficult to use with her as the text has changed from NIV in the original Just for Starters to ESV. Her Chinese/English Bible is in NIV and just generally I find the ESV version is quite "academic" which is not, I think, the aim with this series, for new Christians. I'd not recommend an ESV for a new Christian, to be honest. I have had to stick in the NIV text! Otherwise, I'd have no hesitation recommending it.
