“Teach your kids how to pray!”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

Struggling to teach your kids to pray? What do you say? Why do we pray? Where do those prayers go? These questions can be difficult for adults to answer, yet this book has simplified it in a way that will bless both adults and children alike!

P.R.A.Y. Pals: When We Pray, What Do We Say? by Christy and Jonathan Hooper with illustrations by Mike Henson uses the word P.R.A.Y as an acrostic to easily remember what to pray everyday!

Meet P.R.A.Y pals Poppy, Rainy, Airy, and Yessy! They teach kids how to Praise, Repent, Ask, and Yield!!! Such a simple yet theologically sound idea that will deepen your prayer life!

After each P.R.A.Y pal is introduced, the full text of the Lord’s Prayer follows showing how scripture supports that particular pal! This repetition will reinforce the idea while also helping with memorizing scripture.

This sweet and catchy rhyming book with vibrant illustrations will keep all ages engaged. It is a joy to read aloud! I love learning right alongside my 7-year-old daughter, and now I even think of the pals while I pray!

The end of the book includes a fill in the blank prayer to help kids see how they can practically use it everyday! “When you don’t know what to pray, think of your pals in the sky.”

This is the best book on prayer I have read for kids. What makes it great is that adults will benefit as well. I highly recommend adding this one to your home libraries. You’ll reach for it again and again.

*I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks for sharing this review, Rachel! We're so glad to hear that it has been a blessing to you and your family!

“My Kids Keep Asking For This Book”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

As a parent, one of my deepest desires is to see my children grow in their knowledge of God and learn how to pray. While my sons, ages 4 and 2, have heard prayer modeled in our home, we had not clearly instructed them on what to say. P.R.A.Y. Pals: When We Pray, What Do We Say? by Christy and Jonathan Hooper is an excellent resource that fills this gap in a thoughtful and engaging way.

The book uses simple rhymes and beautiful illustrations to capture a child’s attention while teaching the acronym PRAY as Praise, Repent, Ask, and Yield. One of its greatest strengths is how it walks through the Lord’s Prayer and shows how each of these elements is present. Rather than isolating parts of the prayer, the authors include the full Lord’s Prayer each time, which allows children to hear it multiple times in a single reading.

After just one read, my boys were already attempting to recite the prayer themselves, and they continue to request this book during story time and before bed. This kind of engagement speaks to both the clarity and effectiveness of the book’s approach.

This is a valuable resource for helping young children think biblically about prayer while also giving them practical tools to begin praying on their own. As an Adjunct Professor of Theology and Apologetics, I highly recommend this book to parents who want to intentionally disciple their children.

I received a complimentary copy of this book as a reviewer, and all opinions are my own.

We're so glad that your boys are finding this book to be engaging and helpful! Thank you for the review!

“Sweet way to teach your kids about prayer”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

We’ve been reading P.R.A.Y. Pals and my kids genuinely love it. It’s such a sweet and simple way to teach kids how to pray without it feeling overwhelming. I love how it breaks it down into praise, repent, ask, and yield, so easy for them to understand and actually remember.

The characters are fun, the illustrations are beautiful, and it kept all three of my kids’ attention. But my favorite part? It opened up really natural conversations about prayer in our home, the kind that don’t feel forced.

If you’re looking for something faith-filled, engaging, and practical for little ones, this is a really special one!

We're so encouraged to hear that your kids are engaging in the topic of prayer because of this book! Thank you so much for sharing your review, Jeanette!

“A Fun and Memorable Introduction to Prayer for Kids”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

Pray Pals is a rhyming picture book that introduces prayer using the structure of the Lord’s Prayer. Four engaging characters represent key parts of prayer: Praise, Repent, Ask, and Yield. This makes it easy for children to understand what to say when they talk to God.

Each section connects the character to a specific part of the Lord's prayer, helping kids build a simple and memorable framework. The rhythm, repetition and lots of color keep it engaging and make it so kids will want to revisit it often!

This is a great option for families or classrooms looking to help young children feel confident in prayer and understand how to begin.

“Great and memorable tool!”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

I've been wanting to do a better job of helping my kids (9, 7, 5) know how to pray. There have been several acronyms that people have used in the past-- I grew up using ACTS (adoration, confession, thanksgiving, supplication). I've also seen PART (praise, admit, request, thank). Pray Pals uses PRAY (praise, repent, ask, yield).

They incorporate thank into the praise aspect.

I love how they use the Lord's Prayer to show where each of these things shows up. The addition of the bubble 'Poppy' to go with praise, the 'Rainy' cloud to go with repent, etc is another layer to help the kids remember what each letter is for.

I also love the inclusion of Yield at the end-- saying 'Yes' to God's plan. Yield is a big word, but it's such an important concept for kids to learn early what surrender means and why it's important.

Definitely recommend this book for introducing kids to biblical prayers!

Thank you for your review, Brittany! We're so glad you're enjoying this book!

“Well written!”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

This is such a sweet book. I was very impressed with the content! I read it to my 3.5 year old and 5 year old and they loved it. I would say it leans more towards the 4-6 age range, but the pictures and the content is very well done!

Thanks so much for sharing your review, Maci!

“A wonderful way to teach prayer!”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

This book is an excellent way to teach children how and, most importantly, why we need to pray.

The repetition of the Lord's Prayer throughout the book is a brilliant way for kids to quickly learn and memorize the prayer! The book also is a fun reference for the kids to look at while praying the prayer later if they get stuck.

The beautiful message within the book is evenly matched by the beautiful illustrations on every page! The characters appear comforting and fun and the color scheme throughout the book is phenomenal!

Overall, the illustrations along with the rhyming pattern ensure that children will be engaged listeners/readers. The repetition of the Lord's prayer helps kids quickly memorize the prayer for them to use while they pray on their own. The message of how and why we need to pray is clearly stated and easy for children to comprehend.

Thank you very much for sharing this review, Thomas! We are so glad to hear that you have found it to be encouraging!

“Beautiful Book”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

The bright beautiful pictures alone take the book to another level! The book radiates the beauty that comes from our Father God. The book helps kids to remember the Lord's Prayer and reminds them of its importance. I love how the Lord’s Prayer is mentioned throughout the book, so that anyone can remember it no matter how old they are.
Each character was different in their own way, but had one thing in common, how to pray to God for anything. The book will remind anyone that even when we do sin we are still loved by God and how to repent and ask for forgiveness. Thank you for writing such a beautiful book and reminding all ages about prayer, sin, repentance, and the Lord's prayer.
Thank you for sharing your love for God through your book and reminding us of the importance of praying.

Donna, we're delighted to hear that this storybook has been an encouragement to you. We hope that your own time in prayer is enriched because of it!

“A Book I Wish I Had Growing Up”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

This book is phenomenal! It breaks prayer down into four simple parts, each brought to life through its own character that walks readers through how to pray and what to say. The structure is incredibly helpful, and honestly, something I wish I had growing up!

One of my favorite things about this book is how it teaches both the why and the how of prayer at the same time. Instead of just telling kids what to say, it’s building a foundation by showing them what prayer can look like. For example, showing Rainy (repent) making a ‘mess’ to introduce asking for forgiveness, then gently inviting readers to think about what they might want to say sorry for. It takes big ideas and makes them feel simple, relatable, and easy to understand.

I think this is such a special tool for kids, giving them a clear and meaningful framework to use for prayer as they grow. It’s also one of those books that gives something for both the kids and the people reading with them to take away.

Highly recommend!

Thank you so much for the review, Veronica! We hope this resource proves to be a continued encouragement for years to come!

“Want to help your little ones pray?”

(Review written for 'P.R.A.Y. Pals')

My two children 7 and 5 really enjoy this book. It helps introduce the LORD'S prayer, and you read it 3 or 4 times throughout the book with a different focus each time. For the acrostic PRAY, it introduces a different character each time. These are interesting and good fun and really engaging.

At the end of the book it encourages the children to fill in the blanks of a prayer and help them pray which is a help and aid.
