All about "Assuming"
Kevin DeYoung of the Gospel Coalition gives his view about the new NIV translation of 1 Tim 2:12 (which is "assume authority", rather than the 1984 version's "have authority". If you're interested in the finer points of translations or this debate in particular, it's a good article and well-worth taking the time to read.
