A prayer for uncertain and anxious times

Rachel Jones | 24 Jun 2016

Dear Father in heaven,
You are the God of the nations and the Lord of history.
We marvel that you watch and sustain the universe,
We praise you that you hold our world in the palm of your hand.
And we thank you that on one momentous day in history, your Son entered our world and shed his blood to bring us peace with you.

Thank you that your mercy in the past has secured our future.
Thank you that “all the days ordained for us were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Thank you that when we belong to you, nothing can snatch us out of your hand.
Thank you that whatever else happens, when we are in Christ, we can be confident that our future is secure. We look forward to standing around your throne and praising your name for eternity. And so we praise your name now.

In view of your mercy in the past and our promised future hope, we pray with confidence for our country and our world.
Give wisdom to leaders and financiers, and grace to your people:
Where we are anxious, make us hopeful.
Where we are uncertain, make us confident.
Where we are proud, make us humble.
Where we are unkind, make us gentle.
Where we are scornful, make us loving.
Where we are divided, make us united around the gospel of your son.
And whatever gives Jesus Christ most glory, we ask that you would do it.
In his powerful saving name,

Amen.
