Manic Monday?

Have you ever had a problem that kept you awake at night? Maybe you did something wrong and you were afraid that you would be discovered. Or perhaps you were worried that things were going to go badly in the morning. Wouldn’t it be great to have peace and confidence so that you could sleep soundly?

21 My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, 26 for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared. Proverbs 3:21-26

  • Where is the confidence of the wise person (v 26)?
  • What does this attitude bring (v 24)?

So, how can you have peace when you go to sleep at night? Humble yourself before the LORD. Follow His path of wisdom (as described in the book of Proverbs), for the LORD sustains and guides the steps of the righteous. If you do, you will be able to rest easy, knowing that your conscience is clear and that the LORD has promised to care for you always.

  • Remember, Proverbs is giving us general principles of life in God’s world: so this isn’t an instant cure for insomnia! If you find yourself lying awake, why not use the time to thank God for the confidence you can have in Him, eternally? And if you’re still awake, why not make use of the time to pray for others?
