Easter has come and gone and we move on in our daily walk with God in the knowledge that Jesus' actions on the Cross have given us eternal salvation. However I was struck in particular this Easter by how we can become too familiar with some aspects of our faith. A good example is the Lord's Prayer. How often in a week or month do many of us recite the prayer our Lord Jesus taught us?
But how often do we actually stop to think what we are praying? What do the words actually mean to us? Yes it summarizes our needs and wants - forgive us our sins, lead us not in to temptation, give us this day our daily bread and yes, we want God to be Hallowed and glorified. It is less easy, however, when we have to say "Your will be done".
Even Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before he was betrayed when his friends fell asleep with exhaustion was challenged by this one. Luke 22 v 42 - "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done" So fervently did Jesus pray that he physically sweated while doing so. Do we pray this prayer that earnestly? Do we think through what we are actually praying that deeply?
This book examines the Lord's Prayer in detail and helps us discover how we can delight in God. Take a look more closely at the prayer which crystallises Christ's priorities for our lives. Simply use the code lordsprayer at checkout.
