True Worship...what is it?

Dean Faulkner | 5 Jul 2013

We are always worshiping something, aren't we? Through our words, actions and decisions we are inherently allocating worth to one thing or another.

With everything going on around us it is sometimes hard to focus on the one true object of our worship: our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Matt Redman went through a spell when his music took over his life and left the Lord Jesus marginalised on the side lines. So hard did that fact hit Matt when he realised what was going on that he gave up his music totally for a long period of time. He came to realise just how much he was focused on delivering great music about the Lord Jesus Christ rather than immersing himself in the Lord and worshiping him totally and directly.

Fortunately for us Matt did return to writing and performing and his first song back after the self imposed exile was entitled "When the music Fades" - a song that encapsulated all that he felt and went through during that time of self examination. The lyrics in the chorus just define what our saviour is wanting as we come to worship him.

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about you, it's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry Lord for the thing that I've made it
When it's all about You, it's all about You. Jesus

So, how can we focus on our Lord and our Lord alone in worship?

True Worship is saturated with the Word of God expounded and applied – never pedantically, but sensitively and appropriately. Vaughan Roberts does not bring the Word as a wrecking ball to demolish our perceptions, but faithfully expounds the Word as applied to worship, conscious that even writing this book is an act of worship needing to be approached in spirit and in truth. This book challenges us to worship God every day of the week with all our heart, all our soul and all our mind and all our strength.
