Description

Sixty-six books written by 40 people over nearly 2000 years, in two languages and several different genres. A worldwide bestseller published in countless sizes and bindings, translations and languages. It has been sworn by in court, fought over by religious people, quoted in arguments. The Bible is clearly no ordinary book. How can we begin to read and understand it as a whole?

In his excellent overview, Vaughan Roberts gives the big picture - showing how the different parts of the Bible fit together under the theme of the kingdom of God. He gives us both the encouragement and the tools to read it with confidence and understanding. He points us to the Bible's supreme subject, Jesus Christ, and the salvation God offers through him.

God's Big Picture

Nicholas Piotrowski, 9Marks, 5 Mar 2010

If you are a young Christian, or even an older Christian, who gets frustrated with how confusing the Bible can sometimes be, then let me recommend Vaughan Roberts’ God’s Big Picture. It is written at a very introductory level, in an easy and clear manner that attempts to avoid too much technical, philosophical, and theological language.... continue reading

“Revisited after 12 years, and it's still the best overview of the Bible story”

I've just re-read God's Big Picture for the first time in twelve years. I'm really glad I did.

In this short little book, Vaughan Roberts gives a wonderful overview of the Bible that helps you to take in the over-arching story of the Bible. What I really like about the book is its clarity and warmth. This is not a technical book, this is a book written to help the ordinary Christian to understand how Exodus fits with Matthew, what on earth is going on in the book of Amos, and how Revelation should give them hope for the future.

Reading it again after twelve years, I'm struck by how foundational this book has been in my own life. Though I had forgotten its pages, God's Big Picture helped me to understand the Bible for myself something I'll be forever grateful for.

I'll certainly continue to recommend this slim volume to every Christian who wants to know the Bible and the God who speaks though it better, and I hope to read it again within the next twelve years.

“Insightful, simple & hope filled”

Great read and easy to understand even if you are a new Christian. An easy, simple conversational tone to writing that flows through the Bible history with ease. Encourages us to read the Bible enthusiastically and not be scared of the OT. Would and have recommended this book to family and friends.

“Excellent short helpful book”

Have owned this book for a while and found it really helpful when I read it in my early stages of seeing how the Bible really was one big coherent story. There are longer books with more detail but I highly recommend this as a starter; it may be enough for some, depending on how deep they like to delve. I bought it again recently as a gift for friends to help them with the same issue.

“Clear, concise and inspiring”

clear and concise, easy to read, liked having the practical Bible studies. I got this to do with a younger Christian thinking it'd be good for her, but have got so much from it myself too. The short Bible studies throughout keep drawing us back to look closely at His word and have been an excellent foundation for our discussions. thank you!

“Lucid and concise”

Vaughan book is clear and very easy to read. Wonderful to be reminded that the Bible is all about God and His glory and not about me and my fulfillment. Thanks be to God for His wonderful and persevering grace in Christ Jesus.
