“A wonderful alternative to chocolate!”

We are really looking forward to using this advent calendar this year.

It is vibrant, meaningful and provides a wonderful devotional to go with it, to orient our eyes and hearts towards Jesus this advent.

Thank you TGBC for providing this copy in exchange for my honest review.

“Great for families with young children!”

My girls loved the bright illustrations. The family devotion is simple, with a focus on scripture and prayer. Every session ends with a "Let's remember," a short phrase to recall throughout the day and build upon through the Advent season. We will use this with our favorite Bible storybook every morning during Advent.

“Lovely for young kids”

God’s Big Promises Advent Calendar is an advent calendar that has 25 ‘doors’ that open. Also included is a small simple devotional booklet for families to read together.
Recommended for children aged 3-7, this would make a lovely gift for Christmas time.
Each daily devotion includes prayers, and a ‘think’ section that encourages children to participate in the devotional by giving them questions to consider and answer. The illustrations inside the advent calendar door flaps correspond with the illustrations in the devotional.
The advent and devotional correspond with the God's Big Promises Bible Storybook by Carl Laferton. This calendar can be used as a stand alone as well.
This is a cute resource for young kids to focus on the season of Christmas.

“Simple and beautiful way to teach your children about the Christmas story.”

This calendar with supplemental devotional booklet are a great little resource for Advent. The picture each day on the calendar corresponds to the daily Scripture and readings in the booklet. Each day is simply one page long, starting and ending with prayer. There’s a take-away “let’s remember…” section for each day as well with one sentence to help the kids remember what they’ve learned. The last day also has some review of the whole story.

The devotional is aimed for kids 3-7 and includes some basic questions to help the children retain what they’re learning. The illustrations for this are bold and beautiful. The calendar and booklet are very slim and could be tucked away each year to use again and again. It’s designed to be used alongside God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook, but you can still do it without it as the Scripture is included each day. This is a wonderful way to guide your children through the Christmas story at Advent.

“Excellent Family Devotions”

This Advent calendar comes with a staple-bound booklet of family devotions, and although this product supplements the "God's Big Promises Bible Storybook," it also works as a standalone. The devotional book by Carl Laferton covers the Nativity story in a complete and self-contained way, including everything that families will need for their devotional study.

The booklet shares devotions for December first through Christmas Day, and each one includes prayers, simple ice-breaker questions, and short lessons that include a Bible passage about that day's part of the story. Each devotion is just a page long, and they are very simple and engaging, with a single sentence emphasis at the end for parents to help their children remember key points. The booklet also includes small illustrations on each page that match the illustrations hidden inside the Advent calendar windows.

I really like Jennifer Davison's art style, and the Advent calendar is bright and beautiful. However, the windows are difficult to open, and I often had to flex the whole calendar, bending the cardboard back so that the windows would pop open without me having to pry at them with my fingernails. Because of this, I would encourage parents to open the Advent calendar windows before using this with their kids, to prevent frustration and damage to the calendar.

“God’s Big Promises: Advent Calendar and Family Devotions” is a great resource for young families. I would recommend this to people who have enjoyed the God's Big Promises Bible Storybook and want a deep dive for Christmas, and to people who are new to the series. The devotional readings are short, simple, and kid-friendly, sharing the Nativity story and drawing out key themes, and the Advent calendar is bold and fun. Even though the calendar has some quality issues, I like this and would recommend the resource.

“wonderfully simple option for young kids”

This package includes an advent calendar and a daily devotional book. Both correspond to the God's Big Promises Bible Storybook as they feature illustrations from this storybook.

The advent calendar is simple: made of cardboard and folded in half. It doesn't lend itself to the easiest set up or display. It, of course, includes twenty-five days of lift the flaps, each displaying an aspect of the Christmas story.

The devotional book can be used alongside the Bible Storybook mentioned above but is not required. if you do choose to use both, the devotional provides specific story page numbers from the Bible Storybook that are relevant to the daily devotionals.

Each daily devotional is formatted the same:

- Prayer: a simple prayer to open and prepare hearts for the devotion

- Think: questions, discussion, and insight

- Prayer: a simple prayer to close and praise

- Let's Remember: one sentence that reminds us of an important aspect of the Christmas story we should always remember

This is wonderfully simple option for families with young kids to marvel and reflect on the season of Christmas.

I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.
