Walking by the River
100 new hymn texts with other verses
Description
Ten years on from Light upon the River, this new collection contains one hundred further hymn-texts written in the past decade. As before, each item is anchored in scripture, with Bible references and notes, recommended tunes and full indexing. Some are locally focused and some written with children in mind, but most are for singing by the whole congregation.
Other information
Praise for Light Upon the River:'Christopher Idle's work show him to be a man of firm convictions but wide sympathies...This book will be valued in all parts of the Christian church where there is commitment to a close relationship between the worship of God and the word of God.'
- Alan Dunstan: The Bulletin of the Hymn Society of Great Britain and Ireland.
'Idle's hymn texts are laced with biblical quotations, allusion, and metaphors...While they are certainly intended to be sung, they also make inspiring devotional reading as prayers, theological reflections, and commentary on Christian life in the modern world...I want to commend these perceptive hymn texts to all readers.'
- Bert Polman: Reformed Worship
