Death By Love
Description
Real people. Real sin. Transformed lives. A compilation of heartfelt letters written from a pastor to his people that explains Jesus’ work on the cross.
Death by Love is a unique book on the cross of Jesus Christ. While many books debate the finer points of the doctrine of the atonement, what is often lost are the real-life implications of Jesus’ death on the cross for those who have sinned and have been sinned against. Written in the form of pastoral letters, Death by Love outlines the twelve primary effects of Jesus’ death on the cross and connects each to the life of a different individual.

love it
A piece of advise- don't read outloud all the chapters in book to a friend in a cafe...I think people thought I had some terrible issues [read them and you will see what I mean]
Think this is up to normal Driscoll standard-very hard hitting but great at challenging your heart and even bringing a few tears.
Think Driscoll will remain a firm fave with me! ![]()
The cross applied to pastoral issues.
Mark Driscoll has gained a reputation as a thoroughly reformed pastor but with an acute understanding of the culture we have to engage with. He does not pull his punches, and this book demonstrates his forthright style but tremendous love for people and for the gospel.
It is a unique book applying the multi-faceted aspects of the cross to individual pastoral needs. It is, therefore, a lesson to all who are involved in Biblical counselling. He says that the book was a painful one to write, and it is certainly a painful one to read. The people who he seeks to counsel have sometimes horrendous stories to tell, but Drscoll does not flinch to apply the gospel to every need, no matter how complex. Personally, I could only read one chapter at a time; the emotional demands were just too great.
Breshears provides a clear and helpful section after each chapter dealing with theological issues, which may have been raised in the mind of the reader as each chapter is read.
The Introduction, entitled "We Killed God", gives one of the most graphic and moving accounts of crucifixion, and its meaning for us, I have ever read. The book is worth buying for that chapter alone! ![]()
