Manic Monday?

There is perhaps no greater freedom than a clear conscience. Disease buffets the body, but guilt sinks the soul. And, unlike some diseases, there is a cure for guilt.

1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Psalm 32:1-5

Being “blessed” means knowing deep joy, happiness and well-being. It comes from living the way we were designed to live, in relationship with God in His world.

  • What makes a person blessed (v 1-2)?
  • What does David know he needs the LORD to do for him (v 2)?

How does God go about not counting sin against people who have sinned? The answer’s in 2 Corinthians 5:21: “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

  • How did unconfessed sin (keeping “silent”) affect David (v 3-4)?
  • How did he finally deal with his guilt (v 5)?
  • How did God respond (v 5)?

Are there sins you are ignoring, attempting to excuse, or trying to make up for? What does this psalm tell you that you need to do? Why not take some time to do it right now?
