Some two thousand years after he walked the earth, Jesus Christ is still a hot topic. And for all the conspiracy theories and lies about Jesus that have permeated popular culture and even the academy over the years, the truth about his character, nature, and work has not changed. So what exactly is the truth about Jesus Christ?

That’s the question the authors of Vintage Jesus seek to answer by breaking it down into a number of sub-questions about Jesus, including Is Jesus the only God? Why did Jesus come to earth? Did Jesus rise from death? Why should we worship Jesus? And others.

Nonbelievers and new Christians looking to sit down and delve into the topic of Jesus, asking the toughest, most confounding questions they can think of, will find solid, biblical answers presented in a relevant, accessible way.

"In a society where the Nicene Creed doesn't hold as much water as a tall Americano, Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears take an unabashed stance on biblical theology that comes as a refreshing yet timeless hyssop in response to a Christian sociological breakdown of truth."
Brandon Ebel, President, Tooth and Nail Records

"Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears combine profound understanding of modern culture with weighty Christian doctrine that is faithful to the Bible. It's written in such an interesting style that it's hard to put down. I strongly recommend it!"
Wayne Gruden, Research Professor of Bible and Theology, Phoenix

"A great book about Jesus - yesterday, today, and forever relevant. The answers provided are right on and meaningful to everyone."

About the author...
Raised behind a strip club in a rough neighborhood near Seattle, Mark Driscoll attended a local Roman Catholic church and served as an altar boy. Not until college did he read the Bible cover-to-cover and turn his life over to Jesus. Five years later, at age 25, having no formal training he invited 12 people to meet in the living room of his rented house and founded Mars Hill Church.

Today more than 6,000 people attend one of Mars Hill's four campuses each Sunday in Seattle. His sermons are downloaded more than a million times a year.

Driscoll also co-founded and is president of the Acts 29 Church Planting Network having helped launch more than 100 churches in the U.S. and seven countries. Most recently he founded and leads the Resurgence Missional Theology Cooperative, a resource enabling people to effectively reach their community by leading biblically faithful and culturally relevant lives.

A very considered argument
Review by Glyn Blaize | 10.04.2009

I really enjoyed the way early in the Book Mark and Gary seek to demonstrate that Jesus was 100% God and 100% Man and how this union worked itself out in his life(hypostatic union). The way they handled the temptation of Jesus and Could Jesus have sinned was clear and Thorough. For me one of the highlights was investigation Jesus as Prophet, priest and King and what happens when one of these attributes is ignored, sobering stuff.

The shockingness of the substitutionary atonement or what Martin Luther aptly coins the 'great exchange' is handled with reverence and good scriptural insight.

The one part I struggled with is where Mark Driscoll talks of the what the sign of the cross would be akin to today, maybe I misread this part but could not get my head totally round it as an aids infected needle or used condom are not methods of meeting out punishment... but I leave that to the reader to judge.

The section on worship toward the end of the book is excellent and I think pastors and churches would do well to really spend time looking at what worship is and what worship is not.

In the latter chapters Mark /Gary sums up the effects of the fall poignantly: 'The effects of the entrance of sin into the world through our first parents in genesis3 are many. We are separated from God, which is the root cause of all problems. We are separated from a humble willingness to accept the truth, causing theological problems. We are separated from our created purpose, causing psychological problems. We are separated from each other, causing social/ relational problems. We are separated from creation causing ecological problems' everything is linked!!

The Book ends on the crescendo of Christ coming again and leaves the reader focused on that great day when Christ will come again, let us all live in faith as if her were coming today.

All in all a great read and a blessing

Outstanding Christology
Review by Ron Regas | 03.07.2008

An outstanding presentation of the incarnational model of Christ - living among us - moving into the neighborhood. Also Mark has done outstanding research in referring to recent cults and celebrities and their view of Jesus Christ. This would be an outstanding resource to study through with people to get them grounded on who Jesus is and is not. I would strongly recomend this book.
