Six Steps to Encouragement - How words change lives

God has given every Christian an enormous privilege and gift: the power to speak his life-changing word into the lives of other people. There's no reason at all for there to be 'passengers' in a church: every Christian can change the lives of those around them through knowing and telling the message of God's grace, whether in front of a group, in a hand-written note, in a one-to-one conversation over morning tea, or in a thousand other ways. Every Christian can be a channel of encouragement.

In Six Steps to Encouragement you'll learn the why and how of personal encouragement. Through video input, Bible study, practical examples, discussions and hands-on exercises, you'll discover how to bring life, hope and strength to those around you by bringing the powerful word of God to them. You'll also work through practical case studies such as welcoming newcomers, listening, rebuking, and dealing with suffering.

Six Steps to Encouragement is a six-session course, best undertaken in a small group (of 6-10 people).

To run the course you will need:
- a workbook for each person, which also contains notes for group leaders; and
- a DVD to use in the group.

This starter pack includes three workbooks and one DVD.

Samples of the course video material.

helpful but dull
Review by Kate | 19.05.2008

A short course to help people make more effective use of their conversations in encouraging others in their Christian faith.

Gordon speaks clearly and coherently and what he says is great, challenging and helpful, however the presentation is dull and uninspiring and the group leader needs to keep momentum going in the group so that it is not lost after the DVD section. Most DVD bits are only 10 minutes long thankfully.

positive basis for discussion
Review by Steve Bacon | 12.04.2007

Some found the dvd presentations rather uninspiring but with a positive leader to the group we drew out quite a solid discussion. It was important to: keep the aim of the series in mind : to remember that WE needed to be changed by God's word before we could use it effectively : to remember that God's Word speaks for itself, we do not change people, God does, and our character based on that Word and our love for others must back this up. A number in our group who were struggling with whether they were speaking rightly to work friends etc, or who thought they did not know enough to speak to others were greatly encouraged and helped. It needed quite strong, positive leadership and freedom to really open up together on our experiences and fears to gain its potential.
