'Taste and see that the Lord is good.' - Psalm 34 v 8

Beginning with God helps parents with young children to explore the Bible with their child. This book provides a simple way to start your child in a regular habit of reading God's Word and growing to know God, who loves them.

We hope this book will help you and your child to explore the Bible together. Along the way you will read about the beginning of everything; meet Abraham, who was called a 'friend of God'; and be thrilled by the wonderful things said and done by God's perfect Son, Jesus. But most of all, we hope that reading God's special book, the Bible, will help your child to know God, who loves them.

Beginning with God has been designed to work with The Beginner's Bible, but it can also be used with most other infant Bibles.

Special offer - Get The Beginner's Bible for just £9 when bought with a copy of Beginning with God

In today's culture so much pressure is put on us to feed our children well. We pray that this material will help those of us with pre-schoolers to nourish them with the word of God.

Each day is split into the following sections:

The main course: read today's true story from the Bible; answer some simple questions; pray together; then stick in today's colourful picture of the story.

Appetiser: an optional activity to grab your child's attention before the story.

A snack for the journey: a conversation to have while out and about.

Make it and munch it: optional craft activities to help your child remember today's true story.

Age appropriate. Worked well with a 2 year old

Not rocket science, but just really, really helpful!
Review by Emma Fooks | 13.07.2010

We've loved using 'Beginning with God' with our 4 year old daughter and two year old son!! It's not rocket science, but just really, really helpful! At the end of the day, as parents we're tired and edgy, and so are our kids. Having an interesting, age-appropriate question to open up the Bible reading has made us think about how to engage our kids better with reading God's word. And the stickers are an absolute winner!!

Fantastic resource my 3 year old loves it and really engages with the stories and questions, finding the sticker just adds to the occasion. Lovely to find something that makes bible reading so much fun for a little one.

A great way to start regular bible study with under 5's!
Review by Emma Rendle | 08.06.2010

'Beginning with God' has been a great blessing to me and my children (aged 4.5 and nearly 3)

Its brief, so just right for under 5's, they don't lose interest1/2 way through!

The teaching point is clear and simple.

There is a simple prayer to start and end each session- my kids like the repeated format as they are familiar with it and can join in.

Its not all 'scripted' a suggested 'way in' gives you the chance to make it your own & be creative.

I found the questions a bit too easy for my 4 yr old, but its easy to adapt them. Also you do need the Beginners Bible (not the beginners bible for toddlers which doesn't contain lots of the bits covered)

Some nice introductions & fun stickers, but some bits too brief.
Review by David Smith | 18.05.2010

Our little boy mostly enjoyed working through this (although he refused to join in with the actions).

The questions after the passage did seem a bit on the short side, but the stickers were a big hit (right up until his little sister got hold of them and stuck them all around the house).

Good for my two-year-old!
Review by Adrian Taylor-Weekes | 09.05.2010

We thought this was great. It includes lots of helpful ideas to use in the study time and carry on throughout the day. A really valuable resource to help parents fulfil Deut 6:7. We used it with our two-year-old girl with some adaptation and she loved it! (especially sticker time) She ended up asking to do it! The only trouble is that we've now finished. Wasn't sure about the "I've read the Bible today" sticker though. Also the stickers didn't stick that well. Anyway more of the same please.

Fantastic Bible Reading notes for 3-5 year olds!
Review by Anonymous | 07.05.2010

My 4 year old loves using these notes - he particularly likes the stickers! The notes help you pull out the main teaching point from the passage. Questions are clear and help you make sure your child has understood what they have read. Great craft ideas which can be used to re-inforce what they are learning. We are looking forward to a new edition being brought out.

Not as good as XTB
Review by Anonymous | 03.05.2010

I bought this for my 4 year old as his brother and sister do XTB and love it. I am a bit disappointed to be honest. I find it a bit difficult to follow where they are going with it and it's a shame it's only designed to be used with the beginners bible. I would have preferred something I could have used with an ordinary Bible. The stickers are great though and I like the idea of Bible Reading for preschool children.

I shan't buy it again I will put him straight on to XTB which I think will be fine with a bit of explanation. We do also use Table Talk which he is really getting the hang of.

filling an important niche

I bought this as a gift, so haven't used it myself. However, I thought it looked really creative and appropriate for introducing toddlers to God.

Pitched just right
Review by Becky Briant | 12.04.2010

We have been looking for a while for something suitable to use to get us into the habit of family Bible times, and this is just right for our 2 and 4 year old children. They both love the activities at the start - yesterday the babies we were playing with listened along with us to the story about God giving Isaac to Abraham and Sarah. They also love the 'hands up' and 'hands in' during the prayer time - this has made it into the normal one to one bedtime Bible time, its so popular.

Brilliant for pre-schoolers and their parents!
Review by Sarah Wray | 10.04.2010

I'm so grateful for the hard work that's gone into creating this resource. It's really got into the mind-set of a pre-schooler and anticipated the parents' role too. It's great to have appetiser activities that interest my 3 year old and don't require too much prep or brain power for a frazzled parent, but are in no way patronizing. These lead into the Bible story. The questions that follow really help to reinforce the teaching point and we love saying 'Wow' when we pray afterwards. The 'Snack for the journey' idea is great for recalling what we've learnt in the Bible. I intend to repeat the studies until another book is available and may even feel inspired to have a go myself at some other stories in the Beginners Bible using the same formula. Thank you!

An excellent resource
Review by Sarah Evans | 24.02.2010

Thank you very much for the copy of Beginning with God. We have been doing the study each day as a family; in fact, the minute Paul (3) wakes up he sits us all down to do the study. We love the way that the whole study corresponds with the beginners Bible, even the pictures. It is easy to understand for the little ones but challenging for all ages. This are clearly explained through the “tasty new words”. The section “A snack for the journey” keeps the passage fresh throughout the day as children (and adults!!) look out for the challenges etc. Of course at the end of the study, sticker time is a favourite. I would defiantly recommend this excellent resource. When will book 2 be available!!!!

I'm so excited...
Review by Tamar Pollard | 15.02.2010

Families in our church have been so eager to get hold of this resource and wanting to know when the next one's out. It's such a brilliant resource - and one which we've also started using today with a very autistic 6 year old (who is mad about stickers). At last we have Sunday School material for her - her mum was thrilled.

It does my heart good to know so many families are now going to be reading the Bible with their pre-schoolers :0)

Thrilled to have found something so Biblical and age-appropriate.
Review by Anonymous | 10.02.2010

I bought a copy of the Beginning with God notes and they are absolutely brillliant. Noah (20 months) and Elijah (3) LOVE them. The real hit has been the praying with your hands in the air (they LOVE that for some reason!!) and also the sticker - which leads to lots of prayers for forgiveness because inevitably world war III breaks out over who is going to find it and stick it in. They are so helpful and just the right length for little ones of that age. Thanks so much.
